Booking and what to expect

What working with Sarah looks like, from booking to your first visit.

Booking and payment

  • Book a session on Headway, with insurance or private pay. Headway takes most major insurance plans, including Medicare. For other payment options, email sarahmaldonadotherapy@gmail.com.
  • Headway checks your insurance and shows what you'll pay before you book. You'll also get a few forms to fill in before your first session: your contact details, some health history, and a consent form explaining how counseling works and how your privacy is protected.

Online sessions

You'll get an email with a link to Headway's secure video platform, which is HIPAA-compliant. Find a private, quiet spot with a good connection. Headphones help.

In-person sessions

This is the room: comfortable seats, plants and plenty of light, with coffee, tea and a snack if you'd like one.

The counseling room: a white sofa and two armchairs around a small table, by tall windows with sheer green curtains and plants.

How sessions work

  • A session lasts about 50 minutes. The first one is mostly about getting to know you: what brings you in, what you hope will change, and a bit about your background.
  • Together you'll sketch a plan: what to work on, and how often to meet. Many people start with sessions every week or every other week.
  • Sarah sees adults, and couples too.

If you are in crisis, call or text 988, or call 911 in an emergency. Booking sites and email are not monitored for urgent messages.
